First Class Ticket

Photo Prompt: (c) J Hady Carroll

This time last year the train station was filled with luggage, noise, and life.

I didn’t believe it at first. My expertise had warranted me a first class ticket through the portal at the end of the line. It was said to be a technological marvel on the other side. It would be perfect for me.

But I rejected the offer. Something felt off. Nobody seemed to return.

Then they did. Oddly different. Compliant.

Now I wish I had gone on that blasted train. Maybe then I’d at least be a ruler with our new robot overlords.

  1. Oh, great SF. Maybe it’s a good thing that she’s neither ruler nor slave, she may be able to fight the new system.

  2. I think protagonist was better off not to take the train after all. Humans could outsmart the robots. Unless you’re Klaatu from The Day The Earth Stood Still.
