This time last year the train station was filled with luggage, noise, and life.
I didn’t believe it at first. My expertise had warranted me a first class ticket through the portal at the end of the line. It was said to be a technological marvel on the other side. It would be perfect for me.
But I rejected the offer. Something felt off. Nobody seemed to return.
Then they did. Oddly different. Compliant.
Now I wish I had gone on that blasted train. Maybe then I’d at least be a ruler with our new robot overlords.
(Every week, I try to participate in Friday Fictioneers, a weekly photo prompt challenge where you write 100 words inspired by the photo provided. It is hosted by the fantastic, Rochelle, and there are so many great writers. You gotta try it out and join the fun!)
Oh, great SF. Maybe it’s a good thing that she’s neither ruler nor slave, she may be able to fight the new system.

Thanks! Maybe she could be the leader of the rebels once she smartens up. Heheh

I think protagonist was better off not to take the train after all. Humans could outsmart the robots. Unless you’re Klaatu from The Day The Earth Stood Still.

She definitely is much better off. She will see the wisdom of it I think. ☺

Humans are superior to AIs according to Finch in the Person of Interest series. Sounds like Samaritan!

Dear Melony,
“Klaatu Barada Niktu.” Fun take on the prompt.

As usual the life in middle management is preferable to that of being enslaved.

A chilling thought, Melony, a portal that changes us all! Good for her, that she kept her humanity; even if she is alone.
