The Garden Thieves

Whispers and hushed giggles woke Charmaine from her slumber.

There was a time when no one dared enter her property, but kids these days had no respect.

She marched down the stairs and listened. The brazen pair were laughing!

“Thieves!” Charmaine cried, bursting through the door.

Two boys suddenly stopped at her gate. Their pockets bulged from their pilfering.

Before either of them could speak, Charmaine snapped her fingers, and they vanished in a puff of smoke. As it cleared, two toads are revealed.

Charmaine grumbled, “I really oughta get rid of that gummy bear tree.”

“Ribbit!” they agreed.

  1. Dear Melony,

Where does one find seeds for a gummy bear tree. Cute story. A bit of crit…the third to the last paragraph that starts, “Before either of them…” has a bit of tense confusion, going from past to present and back to past.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

  2. Heh, this is great. Did these boys learn nothing from Hänsel and Gretel? Pilfering a gummy bear tree… tsk. I want seeds, too, please.

  3. How mean is she to not share her gummy bears! I mean c’mon. That’s cruel to have such a tree and not expect to get visitors…
